There's a whole lotta wildlife drama to be seen from my balcony... case in point: the other day our street was inundated with 20+ crows. They're rude, rowdy, noisy and somewhat frightening due to their very large size (is that a Seattle thing? I don't remember ever seeing a crow the size of a cat before. yikes.)
So I'm guessing Hitchcock himself may have visited Seattle at some point, and was thusly inspired ;)
